WELCOME TO THE HOME OF WESTPORT LACROSSE
by posted 03/24/2006

The Westport Lacrosse Association is a non-profit organization of volunteer lacrosse enthusiasts who support Staples High School Boys and Girls teams and sponsor youth programs. Our teams are open to boys and girls who live in or attend school in Westport. The WLA has supported youth lacrosse participation since 1989.

FALL LACROSSE offers an off season of learning, conditioning, and light competition on Saturday mornings. Boys programs are offered for grades 1 through 8 and girls programs are offered for grades 4 through 8. Fall is the perfect season for young men and women who are first-timers to develop their skills and see how they enjoy the game. It is also a great opportunity for experienced players to improve their game and work on new moves.  Fallball begins the first Saturday after Labor Day.

WINTER INDOOR LACROSSE begins the first Wednesday after Thanksgiving in the Staples Field House and runs through February. Offered for boys and girls in grades 4 - 8 it emphasizes throwing, catching, shooting, 1 on 1 defense, and dodging.

SPRING LACROSSE is our main season with teams formed at many age levels to compete with neighboring towns. Tryouts begin in March and the season runs from around April 1 to mid-June.

Our boys teams are a member of the CONNY league of teams from all over Connecticut as well as Westchester County in nearby New York.  For grades 5 through 8 besides league play CONNY offers playoffs, jamborees, all-star competition, and much more. Grades 1 - 4 participate in a pre-travel program called Bantams (Gr 3 & 4) and pre-Bantam (Gr 1-3).

Girl’s programs are organized into two programs. Seniors are in grades 7 and 8, Juniors are in grades 4 - 6. Programs emphasize instruction, conditioning, inter-town games, and round-robin jamborees.
